Rimage 3Q Profit Rises

Rimage 3Q Profit Rises

Rimage Corp., which makes CD and DVD publishing and duplication systems, said Tuesday its third-quarter profit rose 9 percent, helped by favorable tax rates.

Quarterly earnings climbed to $4.4 million, or 43 cents per share, from $4.1 million, or 39 cents per share, during the same period last year.

Results were helped by higher-than-expected tax-exempt interest income and a reduction in a prior year's tax reserve which pushed down the effective tax rate, Rimage said.

Revenue dropped 11 percent to $24.8 million from $28 million in the year-ago quarter. Rimage said sales in last year's quarter benefited from a retail order of $6 million.

"Our third-quarter operating results benefited from strong sales of our mission-critical Producer CD/DVD publishing systems for retail and medical imaging applications, as well as the introduction of our next-generation P3 Producer product line during the quarter," said Bernard P.

Kansas City Report

Kansas City Report

Many of the people I spoke to at the ITEC conference in Kansas City referenced the massive layoffs done by Sprint over the last few years. Some of the news was good, some not. One executive has had one interview in 17 months. Several one-person consultants slash resellers were busy providing support to all the small businesses started by former Sprint employees. Many asked me what the hot topics are for getting jobs today. I said security experience always helps, and wireless remains hot. Let me know if you agree.

The exhibitor mix was similar to that of Chicago, with some interesting differences. There were fewer CD duplication product companies, but more education companies. Beside DeVry, a local junior college (Johnson County) had a booth. That's to be expected when a large number of people are forced to change.
